Deacons

Deacons are important servant leaders of the local congregation of the Lord’s church.  Deacons are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.  They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.  They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons (I Timothy 3:8-10).  A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well  (I Timothy 3:12).  Their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything (I Timothy 3:11).

The men shown below  are those who have been chosen by, and to carry out certain duties for the Hwy. 36 church of Christ as its deacons.  These men serve in various ways with specific responsibilities, which are briefly described.  In all ways, these men are to work together with one another, and with all the members of the church, under the oversight and direction of the elders of the church.  God will surely bless such efforts, and to Him only belongs the glory.

In every case, deacons are encouraged to seek out and enlist other Christians to work with them in carrying out their responsibilities.  They are not to be workers alone, which will lead to feelings of discouragement and heavy burdens.  Instead, they must create an atmosphere of fellowship service, so that the whole church might be active in telling and living out the great message of salvation through Jesus.
