The Highway 36 congregation is led by five elders who have been selected by the church as exemplifying the qualities outlined in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1:
“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.” (I Tim. 3:1-4)
Elders (also called overseers or shepherds) encourage right living, right worship, and right speech as taught within God’s Word, the Bible. The elders are responsible for providing oversight of all spiritual matters of the church, for all Biblical teaching and instruction, and for guiding each Christian in the way of righteousness.
